What's Up With Airbrush Makeup?

What's Up With Airbrush Makeup?

Should You get Airbrush Makeup For Your Wedding?

What Is Airbrush Makeup?

What's Up With Airbrush Makeup By Jaclynn Kate

What is up with airbrush makeup? Their's a lot of talk about this way of applying makeup & their's a lot of different reviews on it. Some like the makeup & some don't. A lot of times I get a bridal inquiry and tell them about the makeup we use & they say they've had it done before & it didn't last & they hated it. Then they come into the salon for a trial and LOVE it.

The thing is everyone does things differently. That's what's awesome about this industry theirs billions of artists out there! If you didn't like a style with one of them you can try a different artist & get a different result!!

So what is up with Airbrush makeup? I'll tell you a little about Temptu, which is the brand of airbrush I & my makeup artists use. Temptu is silicone-based, durable formula that can last for hours leaving you with a flawless, dewy finish that closely mimics natural skin. The base is the highest quality silicone formula available on the market today, known for its durability, easy blending, and quick removal. Being water-resistant, it provides a smooth, glowing finish when airbrushed. It is specifically designed to stand up to hours of heat or studio lights, making it ideal for beauty, editorial, or bridal applications.

Some problems you can run into with this brand are, if you forget to prep the skin. This is important in any makeup application, you must think primer at all times along with a great skin care regimen!! Another issue can be the setting of the foundation. I've heard things like, 'I was airbrushed and then the makeup was melting off an hour later.' Once you set your foundation that's it, you shouldn't have any issues with 'melting foundation'.

A great benefit of the Temptu airbrush is it's way of covering acne & rosacea so perfectly. I once showed up to a brides home to find out she was three weeks pregnant and her hormones turned on her & her acne was going crazy. Good thing was I could layer the airbrush on her & it was still extremely light weight & of course she looked flawless in her pictures!

Meet my new bride Amy. Amy is getting married in a few months & she was concerned about her acne. We sat down and went over some great facial options & face washes that can improve her skin before moving forward to her trial. Amy was concerned about the makeup cause she doesn't wear makeup & hates the feeling of it. I promised to keep it natural and do her eyes only like the picture she showed me.

She is so pretty I can't even stand it!!!

My second bride of the day is Jessica. Jessica was coming in as Amy was leaving and said I was that! lol So we stuck to the same look. Jessica doesn't have problematic skin, just dark spots & under eye circles that needed some covering for her big day.

She was a trip! XO Flawless look for her big day & she still felt like herself. Love it!!

What Should You do Prior To Your Hair & Makeup Trial

What Should You do Prior To Your Hair & Makeup Trial

What Should You Bring To Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial

Before Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial

What Should You do Prior To Your Hair & Makeup Trial By Jaclynn Kate

Trials are SO important! Just imagine you have have a specific vision of yourself on your wedding day morning & your so excited when your stylist shows up you can't wait to show her the photos of your desired look, for her to then say this look can not be done because you need more hair, longer hair, or you just frankly don't like the look when she's done. Sometimes things look different on other people & when we have the same look on ourselves we simply don't like it.

Trials are completely optional however we recommend them 100% to every one of our brides. Our goal is to deliver you with that "wow' moment on your wedding morning. Prior to your bridal trial we suggest you come into the salon with a clean face and hair that was washed the night before, not that morning. Please please please drink lot's of water & take care of your skin! Makeup can only do so much! This is very important to keep your skin clear & hydrated. We encourage our brides to have an idea of what they would like to have done. This meaning please bring in photos of hair & makeup styles you'd like to try. This will help us to be on the same page. You can google images or you can look through pinterest for some ideas.

Sometimes when a bride comes in for a 'natural makeup' look, they get what they asked for to then turn around & say mmm maybe it's too natural & then end up wanting a smoke eye. Lol it happens & it's okay that it happens, however coming prepared for your trial helps you & the artist to give you your desired look.

Don't know where to start? Im assuming you want to still look like yourself, just 'done'. My recommendation is to think about how you like your hair best. Do you wear it all down 99% of the time or are you comfortable with it in an updo? I would try to stay away from a look you feel iffy about, make sure you can see yourself with the style walking down the isle.  Also keep in mind your wedding dress neck line. Do you want to show off the sweet heart look? Or do you have a backless dress you'd like to show off?

Another suggestion is to come into your trial with a similar color shirt to your wedding dress with a similar neckline.

Just remember your trial will be based off what YOU say you like & dislike. Communication is key!

Hollywood Glam Waves - Reese Witherspoon

Celebrity Glam Hair Styles

I want a Hollywood Glam hair style for my wedding

I want a Hollywood Glam hair style for my wedding by Jaclynn Kate

One day last week I was Googling 2015 Hollywood Glam looks for weddings. So excited to see all the old fashion looks are coming back into style this year! One of the looks that really stood out to me was the Reese Witherspoon vintage wave look.

Besides that fact that I adore Reese, her hair style is just so timeless. She may be walking the red carpet rocking this look, but you can absolutely incorporate this into your wedding look.

Now I'm hooked & I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this look on myself so I can offer this timeless look to my brides of 2015!!
haha I mine as well do my makeup too.. Here is my before makeup & before hair shot. I know- not too pretty yet.

So first I wanted to 'set' my hair. I started from the nape and worked my way to the top of my head taking one inch sections and curling the hair all in the same direction around the head. Then I pinned each curl to allow it time to cool down. This helps keep the curl formation in tact.
Being goofy is my life! <3

So once I set my hair, I proceeded to just do a very natural look on myself for makeup. Stuck with the neutral tones and a lot of mascara. Nothing overly fancy. My hair was my focus & I just wanted my face to look fresh & natural.
In this photo, I have taken my hair down & reshaped the hair to be the perfect wave. I then placed pins where I wanted the wave to move.

After I placed the pins in, I gave it a big of a hair spray, waited a few minutes & took them out! I them combed my hair out so it was soft, not crunchy! Here is my final look!

I love the look, & clearly loved my outfit that day too! It is a perfect look for almost any occasion. Lucky for me I had a bridal trial that night & the bride loved my hair so much she got it done & booked her wedding the same night!!

Do Brides Normally Get Hair Extensions For Their Wedding? By Jaclynn Kate

Do Brides Normally Get Hair Extensions For Their Wedding? By Jaclynn Kate

I do a lot of chatting online with brides, other bridal vendors & a question came up in one of our 'chat' rooms on Facebook today & it was 'Do we find that most of our brides use hair extensions'? I then observed that one vendor answered said 15% of their clientele does and another vendor said 25% of her clientele does. I found this observation funny, cause I have noticed that 60% of my bridal clientele used hair extensions.

Now out of this 60% I would said half use the brand that I sell. I often get out-of-state brides who inquire with me about hair extensions mainly cause they can see I do them based off my website, so they don't opt for the brand I sell, they often just use clip-ins. So off of this high jump in percent differences I was wondering to myself, why do so many of my brides use extensions?

Is it because they have thinner hair?

Is it because they actually thought of extensions as an option?

Is it because I advertise them?

Or is it that I advertise that I know how to incorporate the hair extensions correctly into their updos?

Not to say other vendors don't know how, these ladies I chat with sure can work their magic with updos!!

Whatever the case, I can tell you that, if you are a bride & you are musing over the idea of extensions & if brides use them or not, I'd say it's all up to you & what you are trying to achieve. If you will feel even more beautiful with them, then go for it. If your hair is cut into a short bob & you want a beautiful chignon, please get them for the sake of your stylist & your want for a specific style. Having realistic expectations with your hair is a must, just have that in mind as well.
So to answer the question, 'do brides normally get hair extensions for their wedding' is very vague cause everyone's different, everyone's expectations are different, everyone's hair lays different.
Meet Natasha! She is by far one of the sweetest & funniest brides I have gotten to work with in 2014! I started working with Natasha almost a full year before her wedding so naturally I became her hair dresser too! Yay! This is Natasha's hair a week prior to her wedding. Now we have been letting it grow over the coarse of a year & it's literally grown 6 inches! Which I thought was amazing- but she wasn't satisfied haha =] So she opted for the Hair Treats extensions
Her hair was so long & full - she LOVED IT! It gave Natasha that extra volume she wanted for her half-up half-down look.
Hidden perfectly with an updo! Might I just add this photo is-gorgeous!! WeddingBug Studios clearly knows what they are doing!!

Should I Get Hair Extensions For My Wedding..?

Should I Get Hair Extensions For My Wedding..?

Hair Extensions For Your Wedding Day

Hair Extensions For Your Wedding Day By Jaclynn Kate

Over the past couple of years I've been asked by my brides "Should I get hair extensions for my wedding''? My answer... 'What are you trying to accomplish'?

Here's what I feel, if you have thoughts of doing a very intricate updo and your hair only reaches your shoulders, my answer would be yes.

If your hair is going in a bun & its medium length, I'd say let's try the style first to see if we can accomplish it without the extra cost.

If your hair is on the thinner side & you want a half up half down look, I'd say let's do it. See it's all dependent on what look YOU want to see on your wedding day.

If you want your hair all down and want it thicker, do it. You wont regret it for a second.

Now here's another question, 'what kind'? My first questions after being asked what kind of extensions to get is, 'well how long do you want to keep them for? Are you looking for just a one time wear? Do you want to keep these extensions and continuously use them? Or are you looking for a semi permanent fix with hair extensions'?

If you're looking to just use them once just to enhance your updo- go with a high quality clip in Remy extension. This way, morning of your wedding, your hair stylist can clip them in where they need to & at the end of the night you can pop them out! (If you haven't had too much to drink =] )
Clip-ins will also work wonders for half up half down looks, as long as the stylist hides the clips!

Another option if your not too keen on the clip ins would be tape extensions. If you think your hair is fine or thin, ask your stylist for tape extensions. They are literally taped to very small sections of hair. They last six to eight weeks before you'll need them removed and moved further up the hair shaft. They're reusable two or three times and they're pretty easy to hide in an updo.

Now if you are looking for hair extensions to wear longer then just the wedding day, I say go with a more semi permanent version that you can continue to wear on your honey moon! Hair Treats are bonded by a bead & do no damage & can be hidden SO easy with any style! I personally wear these extensions & would NEVER recommend a brand I don't love myself.

Many of my clients use these extensions & they LOVE them!!
Meet my 2015 bride Colby! Colby is pretty awesome & we had a great time when she came into the salon. When she first contacted me she voiced her concerns about how thin her hair was & said she was thinking about hair extensions. I asked what she wanted for an updo & she said all up in curls. After our brief discussion I asked her to come in for a complimentary consultation & she did. After our consult I examined her hair and determined she was a great candidate for Hair Treats Extensions. We ordered 60 pieces to match the color above & I said I would put them in the same day she came back for her bridal hair & makeup trial.

I can't even explain how happy & in love she was with the total look!

Clearly she loves them & they worked out great to give her the curly woven updo she wanted! Her wedding isn't until the end of 2015, so our plan is for her to wear these till June & then change the extensions for a new set.

Wedding Hair & Makeup By Jaclynn Kate

I've been blogging now for a few years about the in salon work I do, meaning all my cuts, colors & hair extensions. However I haven't taken the time to blog about my wonderful brides!!! So to start 2015 off on the right foot, I have decided to dedicate time to blogging about my bridal trials & wedding outcomes throughout the year of 2015.

My goal from my blogging is to bring brides new ideas of looks & teach them how makeup doesn't have to change your overall look to making you appear like a completely different person, but it can enhance your natural beauty while hiding some blemishes that you wouldn't want to see on your wedding day anyway =]

On a side note- all of the photos I will be posting on my blog I have ASKED my brides permission to take their photos & share online. I would never share any photos if someone asked me not to & I would never keep anything on the internet if asked to take down.

Moving forward, I would like to introduce my racy redheaded bride Amy.

Amy is so awesome. Super down to earth, covered in tattoos, which anyone who knows me knows I love beautiful artwork & she has the coolest wedding cake I have ever seen!! Amy said she never wears makeup & hates the feel of makeup. She also began to tell me how she recently went to another salon for a makeup service and they gave her a deep smokey eye with thick foundation & asked for the exact opposite! That stinks! I have totally miss communicate with a client before too =[ so I was sure to listen extra close to what she was trying to communicate to me.
Amy said please keep it as natural as possible, keep cool with the colors and use only neutral colors on my eyes. She did however let me throw some lashes on =] =]

 She's stunning isn't she?!?

I explained to Amy that I was going to airbrush her face and talked her through the whole process. Man do I love those lashes on her! She loves the feeling of the airbrush makeup & loved how it didn't make her look fake or too 'done up'.

Next was her hair. She said she doesn't do too much with her hair & didn't want anything too fancy 'just a simple updo with curls will do'. Okay bride you got it!

So cute. She let me add some little pin curls in the back. With this hair style we left her curls much tighter then they will be the day of her wedding, and we did this so she could see how they fall during the day. Amy loved her hair & makeup trial & said it was more then she asked for & booked with us right after her trial!! Looking forward to this wedding in June 2015!!
